Today’s gem is from Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed’s Ramadan Immersion course, A Clear Victory: Tafsir of Surah Al-Fath. In this gem, Mufti Abdul Rahman explains why Allah ﷻ sent Sakina (tranquility) was mentioned before junud (armies) in Surah Fath ayah 4 (screenshot below).

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,

Why did Allah ﷻ, despite His armies, decide to send Sakina (tranquility) first? Like Allah ﷻ could have just said I'm sending you Junud (armies).

Allamah Razi mentions that it's to increase their Iman and to attain a greater reward by making them feel like they are part of the victory.

This is a beautiful thing.

Iman is something that's felt. So when you feel Sakina (tranquility), you know when you feel goosebumps, this is a way to increase your Iman.

Like the Sahaba were standing in the battlefield in the battle of Uhud and Allah ﷻ sent them tranquility and people were literally falling asleep in the battlefield. Their swords are coming out their hands.

So this is for a person to increase their Iman. SubhanAllah, Allah ﷻ was there for us. Look, we were so worried about nothing. At the end of day Allah ﷻ took care of everything.

Sometimes this happens to us, we’re so concerned about going for Umrah, the trip, lodging, food, everything. And then you go there and everything is taken care of. You come back with an increase of faith. Allah ﷻ took care of it. Before you were maybe a little bit doubtful, but when you see that it's taken care of and you felt like everything is good, you put your trust in the hands of Allah ﷻ, you feel better about it.

So this is what Allamah Razi is saying. They started with Iman and Allah ﷻ increased their Iman.

May Allah ﷻ increase us in Iman.
