Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Shaykh Mohammed Elshinawy’s course, Proofs of Prophethood. In this gem Shaykh Elshinawy shares Ahmed Deedat’s response when someone asked what has Islam ever produced?

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

One time, in a debate someone tried to shame Ahmed Deedat (rahimuhullah) by saying something like, "What has Islam ever produced? What has Muhammad ever produced?" He then boasted that the church has produced two billion people who love Christ, citing the numbers as some kind of evidence of superiority.

Ahmed Deedat responded in a brilliant way. He said, "Yes, it’s true. The church has produced two billion people who profess, claim to love Jesus (peace be upon him), whereas Islam has produced 1.5 billion Muslims that live the love of Muhammad (peace be upon him)."

There’s actually no comparison. Even if you look at the small, intricate details of daily life- for example if two people is debating how to move their finger during Tashahhud, what are they actually debating? They’re discussing the most correct way to follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Can you imagine to what degree people are trying to emulate him, down to the minutest detail?

No other human being has had such an impact. For over 1,400 years, the lives of so many people have been shaped by how closely they want to follow his example.

Allah ﷻ says:

Allah ﷻ says, “And We have elevated for you your remembrance.” 

It’s not just about how many people are named Muhammad or how his name is recited in the Adhan around the clock. It’s also about the way Muslims mention him with their actions—day and night. Every discussion on the Sunnah, every question about how to speak, how to act, how to feel—it all points back to him. No one else in human history has been emulated on such a scale.

May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to follow the example of the Prophet ﷺ.
