Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Shaykh Mohammed Ishtiaq’s class, Prophetic Leadership. In this gem, Shaykh Ishtiaq explains the importance of visiting the sick.

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ would visit the sick members of the community. He did that with a Jewish young boy that was on his deathbed and who was also one of the servants of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ went to see him. And the Prophet ﷺ said, "Accept Islam." And this young boy looks towards his father and his father says to him, "Obey Abu Qasim, listen to him," and he becomes Muslim.

Have we ever been to see a sick member of our community? It just lightens up their day. Even if they're in the hospital, just go and see them. Even if they’re lying down and they see you, it just makes their day.

I'll tell you, a couple of weeks ago, I found out one of our teachers had an operation and he just got rid of his cell phone so I couldn't message him anything. So I went to the main office and asked for his address. Alhumdulilah I went to see him, and I took some food with me, knocked on his door—I've never been to his house before—so got there, knocked on the door, put the bins back in. And then I saw him this week, Alhamdulillah, he was back. He said, "You don't know how much that meant to me, just you coming to see me, it just made my day."

So, just by going to visit the sick members in our community can make people’s day. Make it a habit of yourselves to go and see people that are not feeling well.

May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to visit the sick.
