Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Shaykh Abdullah Waheed’s class, Ascension of the Believer. In this gem, Shaykh Abdullah shares one of the wisdoms behind why salah (prayer) follows the solar cycle.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Salah (prayer) times change based on the solar cycle, not the lunar cycle. Ramadan is based on the lunar calendar, while Salah follows the solar cycle. So, you wait for the sun, which has different rising and setting times. This means you'll have Salah early in some seasons and late in others. Allah ﷻ wants you to understand this. In winter, with long nights and short days, you have to adjust your whole schedule for Him.
Why can't we just have Salah at one fixed time in the morning or evening, when we come back from work? Allah ﷻ wants you to take time out of your busy schedule at different points in the day. When Dhuhr comes, you take time out from work or school to pray. Even on campus, you have to pray. Why do you think a majority of international airports have places to worship? Because people actually think about praying. In England, there are even wudu areas.
The timing of Salah is crucial. You can't pray later; you have to pray on time.
May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to pray on time.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
