Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Shaykh Daood Butt’s course, Denial: Tafsīr Surah Qāf. In this gem, Shaykh Daood explains Surah Qaf ayah 27.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
So Allah ﷻ is showing us here about the qareen, the companion from among the jinn, who encourages a person to do evil. And that’s what we’re going to look at now. Allah ﷻ says,
(Quran 50:27)
qaala qareenu, referring to the devil or the Shaytaan who is assigned to every individual.
It’s like that evil voice you hear, telling you, “It’s okay, just try a little bit of this. It’s haram, but a little bit isn’t so bad for you, right?”
Remember, Allah ﷻ has designed this world in a way that requires us to be on guard, protecting ourselves. We have the strength and ability to do that. So Allah ﷻ says that the qareen—this companion from among the Shayateen, the jinn, who stays close to a person—will say to Allah ﷻ: “O my Lord (Rabbana), I did not make him transgress.”
The Shaytaan will try to defend himself, saying: “I didn’t force this person. I didn’t push or compel them to commit evil. That wasn’t me. I didn’t do it!” The Shaytaan will disown the sins a person committed when we stand before Allah ﷻ. Isn’t that amazing?
May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to protect ourselves from the whispers of Shaytan.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
