Assalamu Alaykum,
Today we’re going through a gem from Imam Khalid Latif’s course on the names of Allah. In this gem, Imam Khalid explains how our own limbs will testify against us.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
So embedded in this notion that your very limbs are going to speak, you now have the recognition that the eyes are going to say, what did you look at with them? The hands are going to talk about what did you touch with them? The feet are going to talk about what did you walk towards with them?
Literally, every breath that culminates in a word originating in your inside, coming through your entire body as it now ejects from your mouth. All of that, inclusive of your tongue and your mouth is going to say every word that it uttered. And then thinking about this as well in terms of the recipients of those actions. Those who saw you do what you did, the words that were heard, the receipt of what you chose to do. All of those limbs are going to speak.
So the children who had to absorb adult emotions that no child should ever have to hear - Moulana Rumi says, “Raise your words, not your voices. It is the rain that makes the flowers grow, not thunder.”
But how many children do we know that have to now put adult emotions in their heart because they overhear parents yelling at one another or yelling at them in ways that no child should have to hear? Those ears are going to say what they heard on the Day of Judgment. They're going to witness what they saw in terms of the way a father mistreated a mother.
You're going to have so much that's there from our limbs, and it's not in our own volition - by our permission. On that day, the limbs, they're just going to talk; they bear witness. So when you call upon Allah as Al-’Afu, you're saying that, “Ya Allah, erase from the existence of these limbs those things that I am seeking forgiveness from you for.”
May Allah erase from the existence of our limbs all the moments where we have had shortcomings and faults.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
