Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Mufti Abdul Wahab Waheed’s course, Treasures of Surah Kahf. In this gem, Mufti Saab dives into the meaning of the word Hidaya as he was explaining that Allah granted the youngsters of the cave Hidaya (mentioned in Surah Kahf).
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Hidaya is a very interesting word. Hidaya means guidance to the point that you can never get lost once you have it.
A simple example that I normally give when speaking about hidayah is when you ask someone for directions. They can either tell you:
“Go straight here, then take a right, take a left and you’ll get there…”
Or
"Hey man, follow my car, I'll take you there."
Hidayah is the latter. When a person says, "Follow my car, I'll take you to where you want to go." what we're saying to Allah ﷻ when we ask for hidaya is, don't just bless us with temporary guidance, don't divert us from the path of guidance. Rather, hidayah means Oh Allah take my finger, take my hand figuratively, and make sure that I reach where I'm supposed to reach. Don't take me halfway, take me the entire way.
May Allah ﷻ grant us hidaya.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
