Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Mufti Abdul Wahab Waheed’s course, Inevitable Delights & Horrors: Life In The Grave. In this gem Mufti Abdul Wahab explains how our loved ones who have passed away are shown our deeds.

Hope you enjoy!

We begin in the Name of Allah , the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad

On Thursday nights, the a'mal (deeds) of the ummah (community) are presented to the Prophet ﷺ. This is why, on Thursday nights after Maghrib—we do our best to send more durood (salutations), because that's when the Prophet ﷺ is shown all of the good deeds. He becomes happy when he sees our good deeds.

Similarly, when a person leaves this world, they are shown their loved ones deeds. Allah ﷻ shows them the good we're doing, and when they see this, they feel joy. That’s why I always emphasize making this du'a—the du'a of the salaf (pious predecessors): "Oh Allah ﷻ, show our loved ones the good that we are doing. Let them know that we have not stopped working after they have left.

Let them know that we continue to make an effort to please Allah ﷻ, even though they are no longer with us physically. Even though their departure caused us great pain, it did not deter us from our main objective, which is the pleasure of Allah ﷻ.”

We make this du'a, and we hope they are shown this.

One narration says that when they see this, they become so happy, they even boast to others in the next life, saying: "Look at my brother, look at my son, look at these people! They are still working hard for the sake of Allah ﷻ. They're still praying, they're still fasting in Ramadan!"

It’s such a beautiful feeling to know that the links of relationships are not broken, even as the soul moves from one stage to the next.

May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to do good deeds.
