Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Shaykh Tariq Musleh and Shaykh Omar Hedroug’s course, Prophetic Homes. In this gem, Shaykh Omar explains the beautiful character of Ibrahim (AS) with his father.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Ibrahim (AS), he is a son who believes and who will become a prophet. And his father is not just someone who is pushing him away, not just someone who is insulting him, but someone who threatens to stone him. His father is the lead idol maker in the town.
And this is also so relevant to so many of the brothers and sisters as well, not just our convert brothers and sisters who may have parents or family members who are not Muslim and who may be against Islam and say hurtful things to them.
But even many of the brothers and sisters, let’s be honest, who become a little bit more practicing, a little bit more committed to their religion. Maybe they have family members who aren't to that level, and so they may experience some of these same things. Being made to feel like you're strange or you're weird, or you're too extreme. And sometimes maybe they're right, but the idea here is that they're getting this type of rejection from those who are supposed to be the ones who take care of them.
In Surah Maryam, we see how Ibrahim (AS) speaks with his father. Ibrahim (AS) says to his father,
(Quran 19:42)
"Oh my beloved father." SubhanAllah, it's like you can see the tenderness and the gentleness and the kindness of Ibrahim to his father in spite of the repeated harshness and the shooing away of his father.
He continues his pleas to his father.
"O my beloved father, I'm afraid for you. I'm afraid that the most merciful punishment from Him is going to touch you.”
“O my beloved father, don't worship the Shaytan. I have a little bit of knowledge that I was given that you may be able to benefit." He continues to try.
Then when his father threatens to stone him, he still doesn't say, "You know, I'm on truth, you're on falsehood, you're misguided." He says, "I'm still going to ask my Lord for forgiveness for you."
May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to remain hopeful and patient in all our trials.
أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
