Assalamu Alaykum,
Today’s gem is from Imam Zaid Shakir’s course, The Importance of Dhikr. In this gem Imam Zaid explains how people that say that there’s no religious responsibility after you’ve “arrived” with Allahﷻ are wrong.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Some people say things like once you “arrive” to Allah ﷻ, there's no more religious responsibility. In other words, you don't have to pray and fast anymore.
If that were the case then the Prophet ﷺ would have been more rightfully entitled to leave prayer and fasting. Yet he prayed more because of the blessings. Aisha (R) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ, prayed until his feet swelled up, he didn't leave prayer.
If anyone “arrived,” it was the Prophet ﷺ and he prayed more till his feet swelled up or cracked. And Aisha (R) said, "Why are you doing this, O Messenger of Allah when Allah has forgiven any sins or mistakes of judgment you might have committed in the past or in the future?”
He ﷺ said, “Should I not then love to be a thankful servant?"
So when they say that there’s no more responsibility after you’ve arrived that’s a mistake. What is accurate is that there's no burden in worship after arrival. And so you can do dhikhr all day, you could read all Quran all day and all night, unless something comes to stop you. That's an accurate statement.
May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to fulfill our religious responsibilities.
