Assalamu Alaykum,
Today we’re going through a gem from Mufti Abdul Wahab Waheed’s course called A Tour of Tales: From the Dream to the Throne, where he goes through the journey of Prophet Yusuf (AS). In this gem, Mufti Saab shares a lesson from when the child stood up for the truth after Prophet Yusuf (AS)’s encounter with Zuleikha.
Hope you enjoy!
We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
When Yusuf (AS) reaches adulthood and he’s blessed with this level of beauty and strength, challenges come as well. We have to be careful because when Allah gives us something it can also be a test for us. We have to use the blessing the right way.
Yusuf (AS) is tested by Zuleikha, the wife of the Aziz.
And we know the story, it continues and there's a child that speaks. The child says:
“You want to know who the truthful one is?
If the shirt is ripped from the front then Yusuf is the criminal and she is innocent, but if the shirt is ripped from the back then she is a criminal and he is innocent.”
A key point to note here is that the child didn't stand up for Yusuf, he stood up for the truth. That's very important. We don't stand up for personalities, we stand up for the truth. Wherever the truth is we stand up for it, even if it's against someone we love.
Oftentimes we may feel a certain type of way towards certain people and that can cloud our judgement. We’ll find ways to justify why we can’t work with that person or get along with them. We’ll say we can’t work with so and so because they have this deficiency in deen.
We all have some deficiency in deen, but you’re still hanging out and working with your friends. The reality is that we just don’t like the person and we’re finding ways to justify it.
Fudayl Ibn Iyyad (Rahimuhullah) says the worst thing a person can do is use deen for a reason to break relationships. Deen can be a reason to break ties, but if it's being used wrongly that's the worst thing a person can do.
So this child doesn't simply stand up for Yusuf because he's Yusuf and he likes him. He stands up for the truth and he gives the reason behind it.
May Allah grant us the tawfiq and courage to stand up for the truth.
