Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed’s course, Dominion: Tafsir of Surah Al-Mulk. In this gem Mufti Abdul Rahman shares a statement of Umar Bin Khattab (R) when he was asked whether it was more important to speak a good word or prevent hearing a bad word.

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Umar bin Khattab (R) was asked, "What's more important, to say a good word or to prevent hearing a bad word?"

He responded, "Don't you see that when the mu'adhin gives the Adhan, he first puts his fingers in his ears to block off the noise of the world? Then he gives the Adhan. The Adhan is categorized as da’wahti tammah - the greatest da'wah."

So he explained that it is more important to use your ears and listen well than it is to even say something or look at something.

May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to use our ears to listen to good.
