Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Imam Zaid Shakir’s class on the Importance of Dhikr about the multiple rewards that are accrued to the people who serve knowledge even after they pass away.

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

There are three things mentioned in the hadith of those things that will benefit a person after they’re in the grave.

The first reward is for صَدَقَةٍ جَارِيَةٍ - an ongoing charity. Serving knowledge is an an ongoing charity because as long as those who benefitted from the initial financial assistance or initial teaching - as long as they teach those that come after them and the ones they teach continue the legacy and teach those that come after them and so on, then there will be not an arithmetic increase in the barakah, but there will be an exponential increase in the barakah.

The second reward is for عِلْمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ - beneficial knowledge. When serving knowledge that continues to be benefitted from you get this, naturally, because the objective is knowledge.

And the final reward is for وَلَدٍ صَالِحٍ يَدْعُو لَهُ - a righteous child that prays for him.

When a person serves knowledge, those being served the knowledge (the students) are given the rank of their children and they pray for them. They pray for their teachers, they pray for their donors, they pray for the people who work and maintain the institutions.

So one of the greatest things a person can do is to serve knowledge because through serving knowledge all 3 of those things that were mentioned in this particular hadith as benefitting a person after their death will come to that person.

May Allah grant us tawfiq to serve knowledge.

أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
