Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Shaykh Abdullah Waheed’s class, Ascension of the Believer. In this gem, Shaykh Abdullah shares the impact praying with the pious can have.

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

When it comes to Salah, it's more about practical learning than just text. Salah is an act; it's not merely a statement or education that can be taught through verbs and language. It's an action. Most of the Sahaba were able to embody it because they saw the Prophet ﷺ do it. When they observed the Prophet praying, they felt compelled to follow him and wanted to experience the same presence in front of Allah ﷻ.

You can talk about the Salah of the pious and share a hundred stories, but if you see one person actually doing it right, you understand what I’m saying. For instance, if you stand by a Shaykh or a pious person who prays correctly, you will feel a difference.

There’s an interesting narration about a student of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (R). He said, "I prayed next to Abdullah bin Mas'ud (R), and I never saw someone more particular about facing the qibla, the hand gestures, the movements, and the posture. He did everything with itminan—slowly and with precision." This student, who observed his teacher so closely, said, "Wallahi, I don't know any action that I ever did in my life that was better than praying with Abdullah bin Mas'ud (R)."

May Allah ﷻ grant us tawfiq to pray with presence.
