Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Shaykh Abdullah Waheed’s course, Heart Softeners: Prophetic Hadith for Our Hardened hearts. In this gem, Shaykh Abdullah shares a personal story as he explains the where we need to look for our self worth and happiness.

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

We have to look for happiness in Allah ﷻ. If Allah ﷻ is happy with us, even in difficulties things will be easy.

As the poet says (paraphrasing Arabic poem):

Oh Allah, If you're happy with me, the things will be easy for me. If you're happy with me, everything is good.

We have to teach ourselves and our children that self-worth is not in dollars, it's not in the clothes that we wear, the brands that we wear, or the cars that we drive. It's not that. It's okay to drive a nice car, have a nice home, wear nice clothes, but that's not your self-worth.

Imam Shafi says, "I wear some clothes that, if you were to sell it for like a penny or two, my clothes would be cheaper than the penny. The penny would be too expensive for my clothes. But inside, there's someone that's more valuable than the world.”

The value is in the person, not in the dress.

The value is in the character, not in the money.

The value is in the personality, not in the brands.

So, that's what we have to build. These types of things and assets are there with money or without money.

The greatest asset is iman, the greatest asset is taqwa. Fear of Allah ﷻ. May Allah ﷻ grant us this, may Allah forgive us for our shortcomings.

أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
