Assalamu Alaykum,

Today we’re going through a gem from Imam Khalid Latif’s Course on the Book of Assistance. He talks about how sometimes we have to go through certain experiences to develop Yaqeen (certitude).

Hope you enjoy!

We begin in the Name of Allah , the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad

We don’t have a deen where you just raise your hands to the sky and faith pours into you. You have to go through the acts at times that then yield to you consequently what can only be yielded at the conclusion of an action.

For example Abu Huraira (RA) is in a space where he’s feeling hungry and he’s with the Messenger of God ﷺ and a gift of milk comes to them. Abu Huraira (RA) wants to drink the milk, he’s hungry.

The Prophet ﷺ has other companions that are there, the Ashabul Suffah - the people who used to live outside of the Messenger of God ﷺ’s house.

So he ﷺ tells Abu Huraira (RA), lets pass the milk around to everyone here. These are grown men, they’re companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Huraira internally starts to feel doubt. He doesn’t think he’s going to get anything to drink since there are so many people, but he does what he’s told because its the Messenger of God ﷺ who’s told him to do it.

So he starts to take the milk from companion to companion and now when everybody’s drank it he gets to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ tells him that you drink first.

And to his astonishment, not only is he able to take a sip, but he takes a gulp and even more than one! And after that there’s still enough for the Prophet ﷺ to drink.

There’s unique barakah that comes in instances of food with the Messenger of God ﷺ - amongst the many demonstrations of barakah that he has ﷺ.

But here, the Prophet ﷺ as the teacher, is diminishing the doubt that Abu Huraira (RA) has by going to a space where he is guiding him through recognizing it actively. He breaks the doubt through the active mode of exercising that increase in certitude so that Abu Huraira knows that at the end of it, there is always enough food for everybody to share.

“The food for two persons is sufficient for three, and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons." Says the best of creation ﷺ (Sahih al-Bukhari: 5392).

So as we go through the experience of life we have to start asking ourselves: what is yaqeen and how I start to shape it and understand it for myself.

May Allah grant us tawfiq to continuously increase our Yaqeen.

أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
