Assalamu Alaykum,

Today’s gem is from Shaykh Abudllah Waheed’s Ramadan Immersion course, Man of God: Tafsir of Surah Luqman. In this gem, while covering the tafsir of the fifth ayah of Surah Luqman (shown below), Shaykh Abdullah explains why the the link between muflihoon (the ones who are successful) and farmers (fallah).

We begin in the Name of Allah ﷻ, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,
We ask that He ﷻ sends Peace and Blessings upon our noble and beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Fallah is a farmer, and a farmer does not reap their crops the next day. They put in the grain, they plow the ground, they water the crops, they wait for the season, they pray for the rain, they protect the crops from the animals and the creatures, and after a whole season they may see the fruits grow.

That is the feeling of the farmer after a rigorous exertion of months of effort, in protection and possessiveness, and he sees the mangoes growing and that gives him a sense of accomplishment. That joy that a farmer gets from extreme exertion of labor after time, not right away, because that suspense builds appreciation.

Allah ﷻ says your life's suspense (time and effort) will build the appreciation of the reward, like a farmer.

They are the successful people. That’s why that word is used. Because a farmer is called fallah and the successful people are muflihoon.

May Allah ﷻ make us amongst the successful people.

أقول قولي هذا وأستغفر الله لي ولكم، فاستغفروه إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
